Mr Philip Donato MP 194A Lords Place ORANGE NSW 2800 e: orange@parliament.nsw.gov.au Subject: Please Oppose Waste Incineration in Parkes and Across Australia Dear Mr Chaffey, Congratulations on your recent election as the Federal Member for Parkes. I am writing to you as a concerned [resident/community member/supporter] to express my strong opposition to the proposed Energy-from-Waste incinerator planned for Parkes, and to incineration technologies more broadly. Incineration is not a solution to our waste crisis. These facilities pose serious risks to human health, air quality, agriculture, and our environment. Once built, they create long-term pollution burdens and undermine genuine waste reduction strategies like reuse, recycling, and composting. I urge you to:
  • Publicly oppose the Parkes incinerator in Parliament and through the media;
  • Table a motion in Parliament calling for the project to be halted pending independent health and environmental reviews;
  • Write formally to the Regional NSW, Environment and Planning Ministers asking them to intervene and reconsider the project;
  • Directly question the Regional NSW, Environment and Planning Ministers about the risks and failures of this project during Question Time, specifically public health risks, lack of genuine community consultation and breach of NSW Government policy intent;
  • Host or attend a public meeting in Parkes to hear community concerns and rally support;
  • Push for a Parliamentary Inquiry into Energy-from-Waste facilities and their impacts on regional communities and agriculture, whether regional towns were properly consulted or misled, and compliance with NSW Circular Economy and Climate goals;
  • Assist Parkes Shire Council to pass a formal resolution opposing the facility and to withdraw any cooperation (e.g., land zoning changes, planning permissions, waste contracts);
  • Support community efforts to explore legal action if necessary; and
  • Call for investment in real circular economy solutions for Parkes like organics recycling, repair hubs and local remanufacturing;
  • Advocate for community waste solutions like recycling programs, composting, and waste reduction initiatives.
The people of Parkes deserve clean air, safe food, and a future based on sustainability — not becoming Sydney’s waste dumping ground. The NSW Government must be held to its promises to protect regional communities. I urge you to stand with us and act urgently to stop this harmful project.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I look forward to your response and to seeing strong action taken on behalf of our community.
Yours sincerely,[Your Name]
